Man, a lot of Christmas carols have the letter "O" in them, don't they? It's a translation of the Vocative Case of Latin, talking about a particular subject. Like, "Hear, O Israel." It's usually used in poetry.
O Holy Night is referring to the night when Christ was born... As reflected in the lyrics... And also on humanity's redemption, which was to come thirty some-odd years later.
Fun fact: this was originally going to be Joy to the World, but I had accidentally started writing O Holy Night. Then I corrected that accident, but I soon realized that the calm sound would have been more appropriate for O Holy Night... So... Yeah. Also, this was the last one I finished, so there's that.
